MEDWAY — Superintendent Armand Pires and Principal John Murray are pleased to announce that two Medway High School seniors were awarded the National School Development Council (NESDEC) Award for Academic Growth and Student Leadership in Learning.
The award was given to seniors Sreenidhi Ravipati and Nicholas Tomasetti in recognition of their academic achievements and accomplishments in their high school years. Both students met the award criteria of pursuing a high level of academic achievement, serving as a positive role model for the student body and exemplifying admirable character and accomplishment.
“We are very proud to recognize Sreenidhi and Nicholas with this award,” Superintendent Pires said. “The dedication they show to their academics, extracurriculars and the Medway community serves as an excellent example for our entire student body and exemplifies what all Medway students can accomplish. Both have bright futures ahead, and we congratulate them on their achievements.”
Sreenidhi Ravipati was recognized at the school committee meeting on Thursday, Nov. 19. Ravipati has excelled both in academics and extracurriculars during her time at Medway High School. She currently ranks at the top 4% of her class and is enrolled in AP and honors level classes.
Outside of the classroom, Ravipati has extensive volunteer experiences. She has volunteered at Newton-Wellesley Hospital in Newton from October 2017 through March 2020, working in the Nutrition and Food Services Unit and the Maternity Unit. Up to March, she had completed over 200 volunteer hours before the volunteer program was put on hold due to the pandemic. Ravipati had also planned to attend the Pre-Med Summer Program at Harvard University this past summer, but was unable to due to COVID-19.
Ravipati has been a part of Project 351 since eighth grade. During her first year she served as an ambassador and then on the Alumni Leadership Council where she worked with other ambassadors and alumni. In the spring of 2019, she served in the Alumni Mentoring Corps during which she led a group of eighth grade students. The group collected clothes for Cradles to Crayons and wish list items for the Mass Military Heroes Fund. On Sept. 11, 2019 she helped create over 1,000 care packages for active duty military members and over 500 care packages for veterans.
Ravipati is also highly involved in the school community. She serves as the class secretary, student council president, vice president of Science Olympiad and as a band representative. She has also been a peer counselor for the past two years.
Nicholas Tomasetti was recognized at the school committee meeting on Thursday, Nov. 12. Tomasetti is currently a senior in the running to be valedictorian of the Medway High School Class of 2021.
During his time at Medway High School, Tomasetti has participated in the Science Olympiad, the Varsity Golf Team, the Math Team, National Honor Society and the Tri-M Music Honor Society. He also serves as a tutor for the National Honor Society program.
Outside of school, Tomasetti volunteers with the Medway Food Pantry on the weekends. He has also achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. For his Eagle Scout project, Tomasetti organized and ran an instrument drive for the Medway Friends of Performing Arts (MFPA). The drive collected 53 instruments, which was more than double the original goal.
